Export to LEF

Use the Export to LEF option to create an LEF (Lending Examination Format) file from within Encompass when required by state law. LEF is an electronic file format used to compile loan data for submission to state regulators for examination.

Only users assigned with the Export to LEF option in Encompass Personas setting have access to the Export to LEF option from the Pipeline.

For every 1,000 loans exported, a separate LEF is created. For example, if data for 1,200 loans is exported, an LEF with 1,000 loans is created, and a second LEF with 200 loans is created. Each additional file ends with an underscore, a number, and the file extension (for example _2.lef, _3.lef, and _4.lef). A pop-up message confirms the number of files that were created.

Ensure that you have saved your changes to the loan before you start exporting. You do not need to close the loan files for the LEF export.

To Create an LEF:

  1. Click the Pipeline tab in Encompass, and then select one or more loans on the Pipeline.

  2. From the Pipeline menu, point to Compliance Services, and then click Export to LEF, OR,

    • Or, right-click, point to Compliance Services, and then click Export to LEF.

  3. You do not need to select loans when creating an LEF for all the loan files on your Pipeline.

  4. Click Selected Loans Only to create a file for the selected loans.

    • Or, click All Loans on All Pages to create a file for all the loans on your Pipeline.

  5. In the Export to field, type the path to the folder where you want to store the file, or click the Find icon to browse to the folder.

  6. Retype the File Name if needed, and then click OK.

The File Name must end with the .lef file extension.
